Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by seven wickets in the IPL 2025 opener at Eden Gardens. Fifties from Virat Kohli and Phil Salt set the base for RCB's chase of 175, with Kohli remaining unbeaten. Earlier, Krunal Pandya and Josh Hazlewood's bowling restricted KKR to 174/8, despite a strong showing by Ajinkya Rahane.

Virat Kohli's unbeaten 59 and Phil Salt's 56 powered Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to chase down 175 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the opening match of IPL 2025. The match at Eden Gardens saw RCB secure a seven-wicket victory with 22 balls remaining.

Krunal Pandya's 3-29 and Josh Hazlewood's 2-22 helped RCB restrict KKR to 174/8. Salt and Kohli's explosive start resulted in a 95-run opening partnership, setting the foundation for the chase.

The chase began with Salt hitting a cover drive off Vaibhav Arora, followed by Kohli's flick through mid-wicket. Salt continued his aggressive approach with shots against Spencer Johnson and Arora, including a four and six off consecutive deliveries.

The third over saw Kohli score a boundary off Arora, while Salt finished with a six. Salt's dominance continued in the fourth over against Varun Chakaravarthy, scoring two fours and two sixes, accumulating 21 runs.

Kohli showcased his class with back-to-back sixes against Johnson, while Salt added a four through backward point. Despite a dropped catch, Kohli hit Chakaravarthy for six, and Salt reached his fifty in 25 balls.

Chakaravarthy eventually dismissed Salt, who edged to short third man. Devdutt Padikkal's wicket followed shortly, caught at deep mid-wicket off Narine. Kohli achieved his 56th IPL fifty in 30 balls with a drive off Harshit Rana.

Captain Rajat Patidar played impressively, hitting Narine for six and scoring four boundaries off Harshit. Though Patidar fell to Arora, Liam Livingstone sealed the victory with consecutive boundaries, including the winning shot past mid-on.

Earlier, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane's quickfire 56 off 31 balls and Sunil Narine's 44 off 26 balls helped establish a strong position. Their 103-run partnership for the second wicket set a solid foundation.

Brief scores:

Kolkata Knight Riders 174/8 in 20 overs (Ajinkya Rahane 56, Sunil Narine 44; Krunal Pandya 3-29, Josh Hazlewood 2-22) lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru 177/3 in 16.2 overs (Virat Kohli 59 not out, Phil Salt 56; Sunil Narine 1-27, Vaibhav Arora 1-42) by seven wickets.

Finally RCB is Win… 💀
